1) Apakah perbezaan antara MGO dan UMF?
Jawapan:
MGO (Methylglyoxal) dan UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) adalah dua ukuran yang digunakan untuk menilai kualiti dan potensi madu Manuka. Kedua-duanya menilai aspek berbeza madu dari segi khasiat dan keberkesanannya.
2) Mengapa madu NZ yang saya beli mempunyai lapisan yang terpisah? Adakah ia rosak?
Jawapan:
Ini adalah perkara biasa. Lapisan yang terpisah berlaku akibat perubahan suhu persekitaran kerana madu adalah produk semulajadi. Jenis gula berbeza dalam madu akan terpisah mengikut beratnya. Apabila disimpan semula dalam suhu sejuk dan stabil, lapisan ini akan hilang.
3) Bolehkah bayi mengambil madu?
Jawapan:
Bayi di bawah umur 12 bulan tidak digalakkan mengambil madu kerana berisiko mengalami botulisme bayi – jangkitan serius yang disebabkan oleh bakteria Clostridium yang mungkin terdapat dalam madu. Sistem pencernaan bayi belum cukup matang untuk menangani bakteria ini. Kanak-kanak berumur 2 tahun ke atas dan orang dewasa mempunyai sistem pencernaan yang lebih matang dan selamat mengambil madu.

What is the difference between MGO and UMF?
Ans: MGO (Methylglyoxal) and UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) are both measures used to assess the quality and potency of Manuka honey, but they evaluate different aspects.
Why does the NZ honey I purchased have separate layers? Is it spoiled?
Ans: It’s normal for honey to develop separate layers due to temperature fluctuations. As honey is a natural product, different types of sugar in it may separate according to their weight. When stored again at a stable, cool temperature, the layers will disappear.
Can infants consume honey?
Ans: Infants under 12 months should not consume honey due to the risk of infant botulism, a serious intestinal infection caused by Clostridium bacteria that may be present in honey. Since an infant’s digestive system is still developing, they are more susceptible. It is recommended to introduce honey only after age 2 when the digestive system is more mature.

However, older children and adults have more mature digestive systems that can effectively handle and eliminate these bacteria. To be safe, it is recommended to introduce honey to children around the age of 2 when their digestive system is more developed.
